What Good Shall We Do this Day?

The Big Canoe Chapel Benevolence Committee is in the business of doing good for others, glorifying Christ, serving Christ with helping hands to the needy, the hurt, the lost in Pickens and Dawson counties. It's financial aid, but often human care, compassion and comfort, the true character of our God.

Benevolence

Jesus said “The greatest among you will be a servant”. The Big Canoe Chapel, through its Benevolence Committee, is a servant, supporting individuals in need and charitable or faith based organizations in Dawson and Pickens Counties. As resources allow, support is also considered for similar organizations in surrounding counties.

Assistance to these individuals and organizations is primarily in the form of one-time or scheduled financial support based on a review of needs. The Benevolence Committee also looks for ways to assist the organization in accomplishing their missions with “hands on” projects which can involve Chapel members.

Mission

The mission of the Big Canoe Chapel Benevolence Committee is to glorify Christ by supporting charitable and faith based organizations and individuals in need in Pickens and Dawson counties. As Paul wrote in Galatians 6:10, “as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people especially those who belong to the family of believers.”

Activities

The Big Canoe Chapel Benevolence Committee identifies, evaluates and selects on behalf of the membership, worthy Christian non-profit organizations for the Chapel’s support. It is responsible for visiting, reviewing and evaluating all organizations under consideration for quarterly support. The committee manages the annual benevolence budget and approves the disbursement of all benevolence funds.

Restock the Shelves Drive

Our spring drive was a huge success! Thanks to the tremendous response from chapel members and the greater Big Canoe community, we plan to host a “Restock the Shelves Drive” twice each year, in the spring and fall. Watch for upcoming announcements regarding dates, featured non-profit agencies, and much-needed items!
