Big Canoe Chapel Cemetery
The Cemetery lies in a lovely serene forest setting featuring natural flowers, shrubs, and trees in harmony with the natural beauty of Big Canoe. The Cemetery is part of the Jimmy R. Allen Mediation Park.
The Big Canoe Chapel Cemetery was formed in 1984. The Big Canoe Chapel founder, Dr. Vernon Broyles identified the need for a cemetery in Big Canoe. Along with Tom Cousins and the other developers of the time, land was set aside for the cemetery. Dr. Robert Platt, a resident ecologist, was among the first members of the Cemetery Board of Directors.
The Big Canoe Chapel Cemetery is located about 500 yards north of Big Canoe’s Main Gate down the same road used to access the Terraces. The forest setting found at the Cemetery maintains the harmony of beauty in the natural habitat found in Big Canoe.
